Thomas J. Shelford is a founding partner of Project Calibrate. He has been a web project management consultant since 1996 and is an author on the topic of web development process Real Web Project Management: Case Studies and Best Practices from the Trenches.

Tom's professional expertise includes information architecture, web design, and software development processes. He has a technical specialization in the development of custom content management systems for publishing and media companies.

Prior to founding Project Calibrate in 2002, Tom was the Director of Project Management at iVillage.com where he established a project management office to support a large IT department and its Fortune 500 clients. While at iVillage he instituted a company-wide development methodology for building and maintaining database-driven web sites. He has also worked in the publishing industry in New York City and served in the United States Navy as a member of the navigation team on the USS Cape Cod, a destroyer tender based in San Diego and deployed to the Middle East.

Tom's diverse educational background supports his leadership of multi-disciplinary project teams. Educated at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis MD, The American University in Washington D.C., and the University of San Diego, he holds a Master's degree in International Relations, a Minor in Mathematics, and has studied physics and mechanical engineering.

An avid surfer and illustrator, Tom Shelford is a resident of East Hampton, Long Island New York.
